Will a 350 starter work with a 400 engine
I have a starter for a 1985 350 engine. i have a 400 small block engine. will the starter fit? work? flywheel match?

What flex plates or flywheels are you comparing with starters 153 or 168 tooth.

Looks like a 3510S to me.
Should work on a 400, without even having to drill the hole that I showed in the other post you asked this same question in, as long as you run a 14" (168 tooth) wheel.

The flywheel will not interchange and even if it did the 400 if built as stock is externally balanced. Sometime in 85 they also went to a 1-piece rear seal block and the flywheel bolt circle on the crank is smaller.

If you have a 168 tooth flywheel, get a 350 Vortec truck starter. If you have a 153 tooth, get a mid 90s LT1 starter. The old style starters are garbage. Same old starter from 1919.
