i dont get this!! cvr starter wont fit up with my new 400

i have cvr part number 5323 and i cant seem to get that darn thing to fit up right.. my 400 has both sets of holes for the starter.. i tried everyway i can think to turn the starter but the starter bendix i think its call hits the fly wheel.. this is the same starter i used on my 350 tpi and i know the fly wheels are different but it just seems my 400 fly wheel is just way to big or something..
i also called jegs and talked to them and they said that this is the right part number for my motor soooo what could be the problem
this is now all that is holding me back from starting this darn car!!! help asap thanks!!!!

You might have a 14 inch 168 tooth flexplate on that motor. What flywheel did you use ?!? The "TPI" flexplates are 12 3/4" and 153 teeth. A starter for your year car and engine wont work with a 400. You would need a starter designed for a 70 something 400.

That's not what I'm saying though. If the flexplate is 14 inches then of course it wont fit. Find out what kind of flexplate you have and make your life easier... I'm only trying to help you out

blackened i am not trying to argue with ya just saying in the jegs catalog it states that the starter i have is good for all chev v8's 153 teeth to 168 teeth.. so basically that makes it universal at least that is the way i take it.. i am going to screw with it some more i did search the boards tonight and see that people with 400's are using the same starter i jsut hope they reply and can help out!!!!

True. Well if it says that.. there's gotta be some sort of adjustment for 153 or 168 teeth. I'm sure you can't just simply bolt it on and expect it to fit for both type of flexplates. Find out what you have to do to make it work.
