Buy crate engine or redo L98???
So after years of being in the garage my 1988 gta 5.7 L98 is ready for some upgrades.
a few years back I bought a ported intake plenum & runners. I want to keep the new setup but want to refresh the motor. Some questions......
1 should I send block to machine shop and have it redone? Adding new cam and heads.
2. is there a crate motor that is ideal for tpi on the market? With Correct heads and cam for a tpi ? Manufacturered to work with non vortex intake manifold I have
any recommendations would be appreciated I have been going thru alot of threads and got the impression that I would need to switch to a vortex manifold with a crate. Is this the case?
thanks!

If you have a good local machine shop that would be best. Probably can reuse the crank and just put in pistons and some cheap rods like scat i beams or something if you are on a budget and dont need something special, and if you can find parts

Id rebuild the engine and if the heads are bad you can get them rebuilt or get new 217s or 083s from Summit. They send you a set and you send them the old cores.

theres lots of options depending on budget and goals. Being ported stock tpi you wont need a lot of cam and big heads. Any of the smaller sized aftermarket heads could work, just gotta make sure they arent 1206 sized port. Most sub 190 cc heads are gonna be 1205, but some import castings i think may be 1206
