Crank pully wobbling
Crank pully wobbling
So my crank pulley is wobbling pretty severely and i was going to just install a new balancer and pulley and call it a day if it was good, but then today i went and tried to turn the engine over with a ratchet on the crank bolt (or whatever the center bolt is) and it was pretty damn loose, like the bolt spun way before the engine did. So now im worried about damage from that, what should i do here? I was thinking just take the pulley and balancer off and check everything out to see if anything was damaged or worn and just go from there unless anyone has other ideas. Im no mechanic so not really sure how to go about this.

Re: Crank pully wobbling
check the crank snout where the balancer fits for wear (supposed to be a press fit) and if measures/looks decent enough, install new balancer-making sure balancer is fully seated against the timing sprocket to clamp it in place good. Then see if the pulley is still wobbling-stamped edge of the pulley grooves are often not real precise and !1/16 runout may be noticed. Also apply a little silicone at the balancer keyway to prevent oil seepage.
Re: Crank pully wobbling
Well judging by the separated rubber and how its sticking out im assuming the balancer is definitely toast. I forgot i should have a tool for this so now i gota go get one or order, kinda wanna pull this one off and make sure its all good before buying another.
Re: Crank pully wobbling
Oh ya im pretty sure i need a pulley aswell because i indicated it to like .005 on the side where it contacts the balancer and it maxes out my indicator at the groove. I tried getting the reading from deeper inside the groove aswell and same story.
