89 GTA 5.7L Drivetrain Swap to 92 V6 RS Camaro
I am helping my son to restore his 1992 Camaro RS, which originally came with the 3.1L V6 and a 700R4 Auto.
We found a 1989 Trans Am GTA that we are pulling the complete drivetrain out of. (5.7L TPI, 700R4, Aluminum Drive Shaft & 9-Bolt Posi Disc Rear End.)
My first question is related to the Instrument cluster for the 92 RS Camaro - I plan to find a used 110 or 145 MPH Cluster from a 90-92 Z28 or V8 car. My research indicates that both the 89 GTA's 700R4 and the 90-92 Cluster use an electronic Speed signal. Is this correct, and if so, will this combination be "plug & play" together or will I need to get any adapters to make this work?
What other "challenges" am I in for with the swap?

Re: 89 GTA 5.7L Drivetrain Swap to 92 V6 RS Camaro
Both the '89 and the '92 use an electronic speedometer. In the '89 there is a 4-out buffer box (usually yellow) that buffers the VSS and sends digital streams to the cruise and speedometer. Will need to use that.
The '92 used the ECM to buffer the VSS, so be sure to keep the 4-out buffer box. Note that the '92 should have a 110 MPH speedometer, but will need to either re-calibrate the tach or replace the tach driver board. Note that the V6 tach has a higher red line then a V8 tach.
Front brake lines need to be relocated to clear the V8.
There is a V6 to V8 swap sticky around here someplace that covers a bunch more.
RBob.

There is a v6 to v8 swap sticky in the engine swap forum.. fuel pump. Engine mounts. Front brake lines. From a firebird to the Camaro may have a few wires different in the engine bay. Good luck
