Firebird stalling at specific moment
Firebird stalling at specific moment
Hello there !
i have inheritate the firebird of my dad when he past away last august.
Love the car so far, 3gen firebird 89 305 with the T top all original
The major issue though is that the car, sometimesl, will run very rough at the first startup of the day. If the car is still warm its not gonna happen. If i dont give it a little bit of gas she will run rough and stall.
And it happenned a 3 more times when hard turning or hard breaking. Really scary. Other than that, the car is running really fine, wich is weird to me, Its a sometime thing.
Please help,
I dont really know where to start. Is there some easy and cheap stuff that i can do on my own before getting it to an expert ? I will do the obd 1 flashing check engine test in one week when i will have the car back from the storage.
Thanks a lot !! Cant wait to ride her again this summer !
Edit: the check engine light do show up after a minute or two of driving it. No specific trigger, randomly show up

Assuming the check engine light isn't coming on while it's running, first thing I'd check is the condition of all the underhood vacuum lines. Any breaks or cracks can cause the car to run rough/stall. If the check engine light *is* coming on while the car's running, I'd start by seeing what codes it has, and go from there.

Oh yeah sorry about that, the check engine light do come on after two mins approx of driving the car Not at startup though. Ill check the lines too though, cant hurt. I will run a test as soon as i get my hand on it thanks.

CEL coming on aftera few minutes running most likely points to the coolant temp sensor. The ECM expects the temp to reach some reasonable value in a certain time, and if it doesn't, it assumes something is wrong.
Check its wiring carefully first. Look for a plug on the very top front of the motor near the rad hose, with a yellow and a black wire.
