LT1 Water pump Coupler STUCK

OK so i goofed up. After changing out the opti i put the water pump back on with the coupler positioned backwards. so the water pump didn't go all the way back on . SO I pulled the pump back off and the coupler is now jammed on the water pump drive. it won't just pull off and my 2 and 3 jaw pullers wont grab it. I tried prying it off and the output shaft actually moved outward about 3 to 4 mm......now im wondering if i should just pull the drive out the rest of the way, separate the two in the vise and put the output shaft back in. Im guessing it's pressed into the gear that drives it? Advice appreciated. Thanks Pat
