Changing to MSD distributor 8362 - or not?
Now I have a (China made) Skip White distributor bought 11 years ago.
It works, but when I try fine tuning it with the Moroso weight and spring kit, it all gets either too sloppy, or, to get rid of the sloppyness, I must use too stiff springs for my application, to make the weights swing out and return back as they should.
Will replacing the complete distributor with a MSD 8362 HEI unit make a difference?
I have actually never seen (or held in hand) one of these.
Can I expect the MSD unit to be firmer / steadier when it comes to the mechanical advance mechanism, than the the one I have?

Springs can be mixed and matched to achieve a desired timing curve. You can use a heavy with a light spring to get the curve you want.
Nothing wrong with the 8362. Looks like a drop in replacement HEI large cap distributor but built to MSD specs.

I personally use that distributor with my 350 H.O. crate engine and it times very well, centrifigual advance mechanism seems very well made an durable, noticably better than what a generic "performance" HEI from amazon gets you (or any chinese made for that matter), I had one and compared them side by side, there's definitely better quality control on the MSD units when it comes to the advance mechanism.

Thank you for your answer.
since I made this thread, I decided to try a made in USA GM HEI unit, and came across a used one in working order, that I bought. Haven’t arrived yet.
