Carb Swap/Dumb Question
Carb Swap/Dumb Question
Ive got a dumb question but im gonna ask it anyways. I think i know the answer already, but its better being safe than sorry know what i mean. I have a crossfire 350 that im in the process of converting over to a carb. Im about to start it up this weekend. The car has a 700r4 that does not have the tv cable hooked up. Have not bought the bracket for it yet. My question is can i start the car, set idle, timing, and check for leaks and not damage the transmission if i dont put it in gear? Just to repeat myself I will NOT put it in gear just turning car on to check for leaks and get it idling smooth. Ive never really messed with a 700r4 other than changing the fluid and filter. Thanks for any help in advance.
Re: Carb Swap/Dumb Question
That's not a dumb question. A "dumb question" is one which should have been asked but was not.
When installed and adjusted, the TV cable is generally in a slack position with a closed throttle. Starting and operating the engine that way should cause no damage, with the possible exceptions being if the free end of the cable happens to fall and get tangled in a fan belt, shorts an electrical connection or device, or somehow pokes you in an eye. Putting it in gear at that state should also be no problem, and you could probably drive it around briefly at low throttle without fear.
