Tech / General EngineIs your car making a strange sound or won't start? Thinking of adding power with a new combination? Need other technical information or engine specific advice? Don't see another board for your problem? Post it here!
Pardon me but there doesn’t seem to be a transmission section, I’d like to put a manual transmission in my iroc Camaro, currently having a 383 done and probably leaning towards the t56 transmission. A few questions , i have is some of these kits you buy use the 4th gen pedal setup. Is this the norm for this installation? Also would you install the engine and transmission together? The engine and the bell housing? Or just the engine and work everything trans related from underneath? Thanks in advance.
I used magnum f t56 close ratio and mated it to my sbc using a QuickTime bellhousing. I used a stock flywheel and a ram dual disk rated at 800hp and actuated it with an American powertrain t56 hydro setup for an 82-92 f body. The whole setup works awesome and was easy enough to put in. You do need to locate the bell but it's easy especially w the engine out. The hydros w the dual disk have a lighter pedal than the stock setup and shifts great. Putting the two in together is faster and easier. Hydros w pedal height adjuster and speed bleeder
As for pedals it doesn't really matter. I am using my stock T5 pedals with a magnum T56. You can also use the 4th gen ones as well although you'll want to make sure the throttle cable set-up is the same (I do not remember off hand). I found putting the engine and trans together as an assembly was easiest for me. I then lowered the car onto the assembled pair. To each their own here, there is no right or wrong way. I did it this way to protect my engine bay paint. Gave me a little more control.
