HI all ive spent god knows how much money on this engine
1st off started engine with fi tec 3004 installed !
reved for the hills headers turned white almost see through
found no reason for this ! sent fitec unit back to fi tec
thay made sum ecu mods ! nothing wrong with it !
so back on it went same thing again
fed up with this fitted a edelbrock 600cfm 4 barrel it started it ran did not rev but filled the garage with blue smoke.
so apart it came
oil everywear on top of pistons inlet ports exhast ports everywhear
heads have been sent to machine shop told that no good not cost effective to repair
cam has grooves worn in it
lifters have strange wear patern on sides of bottom of lifter wear rolled pin goes through
crank has scoring and sump full of thick grey colored muck in bottom
strange wear pattern on bores and sum scoring
when i built the engine i fitted a high volume melling oil pump .has this emptied the sump and whiped my engine out ?
ive read sum 880 blocks wer not fully machined for roller cams ?
block is 030 bored how far can this be bored ?
any help greatfuly receved

Sounds like the carb flooding the motor and washing the rings down with fuel. Likely due to excessive fuel pressure and/or a defective carb. What regulator did you use? How was it plumbed? What was the fuel pressure set to?

Not sure what this has to do with the block, other than being a related frustration, which, I feel ya; butt, what's wrong with them? What heads are they? Did they tell you they weren't worth giving back, and they kept them, and offered you a set of ... something ... off their shelf, at regular price, not even any credit for the "cores" they took from you? Typical sleazeball machine shop rip-off technique to get their hands on a set of good heads for their own cars.

What sort of grooves? Where? Photos would help.

Not sure what "lifter wear rolled pin goes through" means?

How much? Where? Is there debris stuck in the bearings? Photos?

Sounds like somebody used moly grease as their build lube. Maybe too much of it. Moly is good; using more of it than a sparing dab here or there not so much, because it's MUCH heavier than oil and settles out to a thick sort of bluish-grey colored muck coating the bottom of the oil pan, and also, if it DOES get picked up by the oil pump, plugs the oil filter IMMEDIATELY, during break-in, just when oil flow is needed THE MOST during the entire life of the engine.

It hasn't emptied the sump. Not a problem there. Not sure how an oil pump can whip a motor though?

Never heard this butt that certainly DOES NOT mean that I'm saying it's not possible. I'm guessing you read this on the Internet? Everybody knows it's impossible to post anything on the Internet if it's not true so if that's where you read it then it must be so. After all, didn't Algore tell us all about that while he was explaining how he invented the Interwebz? Not sure though, what this ... possibility ... has to do with the issue at hand.

MAYBE another .010". Most newer blocks can't go very far. It can be sonic-tested to see how thick the walls are (although that won't tell the quality of the metal there); quick, cheeeeep, and eeeeeezzzy.
