Heres a valuable tip: Never buy an S-10 unless you do not change your own oil. My buddy and I were changing the oil in his s-10, and when we got to the point of changing the oil filter, thengs went bad. First, its a tiny filter, so I get my smallest bad wrench, put it on there, and hear a 'crunch'. The damn filter collapsed. And its so small, the bad wrencg will not tighten on it anymore. So i get a scredriver and poke through the filter, thinking i could use the 'screwdriver method'. Tried to turn it, but it tore a gash about 1" long in the filter. After many attempts with various toll combinations, I decided to get a 14" scewdriver and a hammer, hammer the screwdriver in one side the filter, and out the other. Only after I did this could I break the filter loose, but its right above the frame crossover, and inbetween the engine and the inner fenderwell. So i can only turn it about 1/4 turn. So i have to poke another hole in it, turn it a little, poke another hole, and so on. About an hour later, I get the filter off, and it looks like someone took an M16 to it.

The moral of this story is: don't buy an S-10!!

I always wondered why it would be so hard to weld a nut to the end of an oil filter to make it easy to remove.

sounds like the filter was too tight more than anything the s10 did. whats a bad wrench? might not of been right tool for the job. some oil filters do have nuts welder or made into them.

I think he meant band wrench. Someone probably tightened the filter with the wrench like a moron. The newest S-10s kinda suck for doing an oil change on, but if you want a vehicle that will **** you off, try changing the oil of a small toyota truck.

Hey, don't ditch the S10's. I had mine for 100,000 (out of 240,000) miles and never had a problem changing the oil. However, when i first got my Camaro, i had the same problem. After an hour of stabbing screwdrivers in, it finally came out. The jerk who changed the oil before me must have used a wrench to tighten the filter down.
Anyway, S10's rock
