distributor o-ring

Hello from Europe,

I want to replace the distributor O-ring.

I've looked for a replacement in the US and it costs a few cents, but shipping and customs are expensive, and in Europe I can only find it in millimeters.

I read that the original O-ring measures 1 inch inside diameter (25.4 millimeters) and 1/8 inch thick, or 0.125 inches (3.175 millimeters). The one I found measures 0.98 inches (25 mm) and 0.14 inches (3.55 mm).

Do you know if it will be fine or if it's too big?

Thanks.

Re: distributor o-ring

That will probably work. Try it and see.

The o-ring gets compressed slightly to make the seal, so anything in the approximate size should work.

I have two generic o-ring kits in my shop, one SAE and one metric. Each kit is the EXACT same size o-rings, just labeled metric or SAE.

I think the o-ring that you found will work fine.

Re: distributor o-ring

6-cyl uses an O-ring.

At least, the same 6-cyl (2.8) when used in the S10, does. I supervised a relative once who had to change it in his S10 because it leeeeeeked so bad. Since I've never even seen a 6-cyl in one of these cars, I can't speak authoritatively; butt I see no reason why it would be likely to be any different.

Re: distributor o-ring

The Dorman part number for these O-Rings is 90441
The Outside major diameter is 32.6mm
The inside diameter is 25.6mm
The O-Ring material cross section is 3.5mm
The O-Ring material is high temperature and oil resistant silicone rubber.
Please keep in mind that these measurements were made with a set of dial calipers and the material is rubber so it's hard to get a totally accurate measurement, but it's close.

The black one in the package was the original O-Ring. The beige colored Dorman O-Rings were a little snug, but worked fine.

I replaced mine because of the flat spot on the outside which developed over 37 years installed.
My engine is the 2.8L but I believe the O-Rings are the same for both 2.8L and 3.1L engines.

Gotta love the Dorman Help selections. All kinds of simple hard to find parts like clips, springs, screws that you can't find anywhere else unless you go to the junkyard.

You can find most if not all of that stuff from any decent consumables (nut & bolts) vendor. And it's new.
