Idling Problem

I've got a problem guys...and I hope one of ya'll can help me....
I've been outside for the past 2 hours working on my friend's 92 RS TBI. I replaced the distributer cap for him b/c he doesn't know how to do much of anything. My real odeal is, I found a cracked hose almost right against the distributer cap and a little to the left. I dont' know if that has anything to do w/ it or not. But I touched it and it fell apart, and ever since it's been idling rough. I might have mixed up some of the wires. I dont' know for sure, though, if that would cause a problem. If someone could, I would really appreciate it if they could send me a pic of the wire configuration of the distributer cap, unless that hose is causing the problem......TY. Let me know if you have any questions......

It's also backfiring right now BTW. I'm getting really pissed at it, and I've given up on it for the night. I sh** rigged the short hose back on, but it's still leaking air. I'm going to wait till the morning to jack w/ it some more and try other things, that and give ppl a chance to post something to help me. I'm familiar w/ the TPI's but not the TBI's.......sucks to be me right now

Yeah a vacuum leak can cause a rough idle like that if its big enough. An incorrect firing order i.e. a misplaced plug wire will do the same thing (you'll be having a constant miss or two) and it will backfire. If you have a repair manual for your car it'll show the correct firing order for all the v-8 engines. Its also possible that the vacuum hose that cracked was for the pressure regulator, which will cause excessive fuel pressure at idle and overly rich mixture.

Thanks man, I'll be sure to check it out. I asked my dad about it last night, and he said that it might be the gasket between the TBI and the intake. There's a way to check it by spraying WD-40 or B-12 between the TBI and the intake. If there is a leak, the RPM will go up. You just have to make sure you don't spray it directly into the TBI or you'll lose some air hair. I'll try everything today since it's nice outside. Thanks again
