water pump question

ok i have a 86 L69. i was wondering what water pump i should have reverse or standard flow.i read some where it should be reverse but i think that was for a tpi. i need to know cuz i sparked her up today at -22 and within 15 mins the fan kicked in, and in the summer it's even worse. the rad was flushed preasure cheaked, and a new cap and stat. the only thing i can thing i can think of is the water pump rotation, it has been changed before i owned it, maybe they put the wrong one on. i know 3rd gen's run warm but this is insane, any tips on keeping it cool would be tremendesly appreciated thanks!

len,

If your engine has the standard 37° 'V' belts (as an '86 probably should) it should use a standard rotation water pump. It is possible that a gasket is positioned improperly, blocking a port, or that the impeller is slipping on the pump shaft.

You're coming to that conclusion just by the fan coming on? Did you actually measure the coolant temperature?
