Not Thirdgen Related But Need Help

My mom has a 97 blazer and the check engine light came on. Is there any way for me to check the codes it its computer like you could with the older cars. Can I just use the paperclip like you do to flash the engine light on our cars? If so what pins and where would her connector be located?

Thanks

Ben

The computer is OBDII (93ish and newer cars) and as far as I know (I could be wrong) the paper clip trick doesn't work. I used to work for Murray's Dicount Auto and what we did was loan out scan tools for OBDII. It's $200 for the unit and another 100 for OBDII cartridge but you get a full refund when you return it. It's an amazing tool, especially on OBDII cars and will tell you absolutely anything about your car including trouble codes, all you need to know is the make model and engine code. I know we have Murray's in Chicago but I'm not sure about elsewhere in IL. Call around some other parts stores and see if they do the same thing.

Thanks for your help. I guess if you cant do it without the scan tool that will probably be my only option. I just thought it would be nice to be able to just run out and check it real quick. I hope someplace around here does that but I dont think that they do. What brand of scan tool did you use?

Thanks

Ben

The name of the company has slipped me at the moment but in looking for it I found this: http://www.ghg.net/dharrison/obdscan.html
