You did one on replacing them with the heads still on the car right?? If not you can crack off the porceline of a spark plug and make a hose fitting that hooks to an air compressor. Then screw the plug in and turn of the compressor. Have it at a low psi like around 6 maybe. This will hold the valves up in the cylinder. Then use a spring compressor and take out the keepers and retainers. You probably can just modify this with what you have. Just a suggestion.

Non related to your tech artical but, Did the guide seals cure your problem??? If I remember correclty you were using an incredible amount of oil under all conditions warm/cold, if the seals fixed the problem it would supprise me but what wouldent supprise my is if the guides are almost gone.
