Power Steering Unit Sound on Acceleration?
When I accelerate my '85 Z28 305 TPI rather hard, and the RPMS get to about 2500... I THINK I hear what is the power steering unit making noise. I'm not 100% sure if that's it... but I've heard other peoples cars in general make the same noise when the turn, say in a parking lot when I'm walking to my car. The sound appears to be coming from the engine compartment right infront of me. It's not the A/C cause I have the belt off that. The Alt/Smog Pump are on the other side and the sound doesn't appear to be coming from there, and I have a new Water Pump on.
Fluid is full and good colored.
Though, ever since I got the car, once or twice every few weeks or so... I'll try and turn the wheel at a standstill and it's like I have no power steering at all.
Any Ideas? It sounds pretty crappy when I put my foot in it.

Well, you can try taking the belt off the power steering and then accelerating; do this in a wide open area where you don't have to turn!
If you don't hear the noise, it's likely to be the pump. Or the belt.
I've had the experience of losing power assist in parking lot maneuvers. What was happening was the belt was slipping, causing the pump to, well, to not pump!

The belt is only a few months old and the tension is good.
