Installing power door locks in a 86fb...

Alright guys, tough question/s

First, i am looking to put an alarm in my car, but i might as well be able to take advantage of the keyless entry. My car has power windows, but not power locks...

SOO... i looked in my book, and saw where the relay is supposedly located. To my dismay, it wasnt there.

So, my question is, anyone installed the power locks, and what kind of difficulty is it (whether its worth the 75 bucks a door to have an alarm shop do it).

Next- is all the factory wireing still in place? could this be as simple as getting the actuators(solenoids) the door panel switches, relay and then wiring to go to a relay?

Next- on power door locked 3rdgens, was there a lock switch on the pass side?

Ok.. i'm sure i'll more questions as time goes on.

Power lock wiring harness, door lock actuators, relays and switches are not installed in the car unless your bird came factory equipped with power locks. Stock power distribution gets power for the solenoids from the same circuit as the rear window defroster.

Stock power lock relays are behind the drivers side kick panel, but you can use a couple of generic 30amp bosch vf-4 SPDT relays instead. I went with a negative trigger system for the door lock switches i retrofitted, but the stock positive trigger system will work as well.

From the factory, power lock switches were on both drivers and passenger doors. If you have an alarm shop retrofit some generic actuators, you will not have switches on any of the doors unless you pay them extra. Only way to activate the actuators will be through your alarm remote. If you want to go the generic actuator route but do the install yourself, you can acquire a pair of actuators for under $10 per door from ebay.

Keyless entry is very convienent, and can be a necessity if your door lock cylinders are frozen during the winter time.

Some vehicles such as 92' and later ford crown victorias have the wiring and actuators installed in the doors regardless of whether the car had factory installed power locks or not. Retrofitting is very easy, acquire and install two plastic trim panels and door lock switches and the project is complete. Third gen f-body owners are not so fortunate.

steve i put power locks in mine a long time ago, i went to the bone yard, i took the wires from the doors and the whole relay with the wires attached, i then just had to put the relays in and supply 12v power, the solenoids for the doors were rivited in to the car that i got, there all like this, i popped the rivits out and i used nuts and bolts to hold them in mine, also grab the rods that go from the solenoids to a little mechanism that also bolts to the door you need that too, it's pretty easy
