Header gasket install. I need a response IMMEDIATELY!
I got the Percy dead soft aluminum brand. There is a smooth side and a concave side to the gasket. Which side goes towards the head and which towards the header? Thanks in advance.
Isn't the direction stamped in the face of the gasket? If not, I would GUESS the flat side would mate with the head casting, and the concave side with the more pliable header flange. Then again, if they are truly soft, what difference would it make, since they should form to anything?

If the directions were on the header or in the package, they would be on by now! No directions, but I am inclined to think as you. Just wish I knew for sure. The e-mail address on the package doesn't work either
Rob,
No flame intended, it's just that usually there is some marking on the faces of the gaskets themselves, like "IN" or "OUT" or "ENGINE", or something.
As for their email link and instructions - so much for customer support...

Nope, these dont come with directions, none that I seen anyway. Vaders guess is correct. The smooth side goes to the head and the concave side goes the the headder. I guess Percy thinks everyone can figure it out on thier own. I had problems too so dont feel bad

Thanks for the help guys. I got the driver side on today. They really seem to conform to the header flange, much better then the Mr. Gaskets I had.
However, I don't know what SLP was smoking when they made the flanges for the 1 5/8 headers. Those 12 point bolts look good but try getting a wrench or socket on them to tighten them! I took my cutoff wheel and clearanced around the bolt hole and now I can get a 3/8 wrench around the bolts. (only after grinding some material off the closed end of the wrench
)
Tomorrow the passenger side.
