What's an avg. price for block machining?
I have an L98 block from my Nothback GTA that I want to have tanked, decked, bored, honed..all the usual stuff. What is a decent neighborhood average on what it costs to have the block done? Thanks.

It really depends on area. I got mine machined for a little under $100 but I am in texas right inbetween shreveport LA. and Dallas both are about an hour drive so the price is lower to draw in more business that would normally leave town. Just call some local machine shops tell them what you want and what you have and compare prices and talk to local gear heads to find out who is cheep and who does good work I went with a shop that most people arround here reccomended.

I'm gonna have to start shipping cases to Dallas. For hot caustic cleaning, re-decking, boring and honing every cylinder, and checking the crank journals (just checking - not boring or align honing) it costs upwards of $350.00 in the upper midwest.

I just got my block back from the machine shop.
Hot tanked, bored, torque plate honed, cam bearings installed, freeze plugs and all engine plugs installed for $370.
That didn't include decking it but the prices should be similar.
As a side note you can get a brand new block from SDPC for about $600. So I wouldn't spend more than that on machine work for a stock block.
