Third rear-end

I'm on my third rear-end. And now it's starting to make noise again, like the typical whining. WTF? If I get new gears, will this solve the problem? Why do I go through rear-ends so much? And I don't beat on it, just the occasional drag race. Thanx.

diff gears, like transmissions, are not at all easy to set up properly. Maybe you need to find a qualified shop to do it.

I don't know anyone with a 3 series or higher gear that doesn't whine... especially during deceleration.

oh... and GM posi units need a full synthetic gear oil to last. You can buy additives for regular gear oil but why not buy the good stuff from the start

ic you have an 87 5.7 car, is the borg warner unit still in it? sounds to me like either way your set up needs to be better or you need to upgrade some stuff.

Well glad to know I'm not the only one with rearend problems.
Just kidding. But anyways the rear that was in the car when I got it took a hard hit to a curb sideways, so it really wasnt its fault. So I replaced it with a used one with slightly better gears, and it seemed to always have a whine to it, especially on decel as mentioned before. But just the other day a horrible noise poked its ugly head out again, a problem I have had for a while just couldnt figure out where it was coming from. So I figured the last thing to check was the rearend, desperatly hoping it wasnt the problem, but turns out it is. When I loosened up the first couple bolts to let the fluid out, metal shavings colored the fluid silver, damn! The spyder gears were hosed.
Oh well, the diff. in the old rear is still good, and I have a set of 3.73's, so I guess I have a weekend filled up.
And a minor little problem I created to fix also, but I need to make post to see if anyone else has done frigged up like this also.
