hey guys my freind has a 5.0 mustang and was drivin down the road and shifted 2nd gear and 2 grand and all of a sudden it made this huge bang. he looked and his timeing chain exploded and blew off the cover and bent the crank pully up. he says he bent the crank. but it turns over and if it was bent it would not spin freely am i right?? also i never heard of just bending the end of your crank i would think it would just snap. well wuts your opinion? i am just wondering. and wut the heII u know ford is junk if they blow at 2 grand lol

Well lets pretend were talking about another type of car, OK.
Anyways I think that he would be doing more damage by spinning the motor with no timing chain, but I dont know.
And also I've never heard of bending a crank.
What he should do is get another timing chain set, put it on, then see if there is any other problems. Who knows it just might crank up and run fine. Well thats if its all installed correctly.

You won't do damage spinning the motor with no timing chain, and don't put another timing chain on if it's apparent that the crank is damaged. How many miles are on the engine? I'd remove the oil pan and check everything before touching it.
i have seen bent cranks, more correctly cranks with an excessive amount of run out, .010 or so. not like a big dog leg kink or anything. it'd be hard to truely bend one with all the caps bolted in place instead of breaking it, and i doubt if it's anything you could see with a naked eye.
