305 swirl heads
Does anyone have experience with later swirl type 305 heads. I am new to performance stuff since EFI started. They look like they do not flow well at high RPM. Casting number is ***2087.
Yeah they have a cast in swirl that makes nice broad torque but it doesnt support high RPM horsepower at all. They can be worked a bit to gain maybe 10-20 hp but they just arent really worth it.
How bad are they? I will be swapping my ca this spring, so if its worth a porting job, maybe i will. On a related topic - how much would it cost to get them professionally ported?
I doubt I will, but I gotta keep my options open!! :lala:

Buck......If I had to do it again and did not have any other heads to install or cash on hand to buy I would do some grinding on the LO3 heads just to see what could be improved. I have had mine at over 130 mph with those heads and stock intake on it. Clean up the ports and cut down that swirl hump and it should help. Or get very cheap 305 TPI heads which will flow better and clean those up. It's not hard.
Well, I was asking about getting it done for me mostly because I know absolutely nothing about working on heads. I would get a pair of TPI heads, but even if I could pick em up cheap, shipping would be a bitch. Plus not many are fer sale. Well, is there anywhere I could go for like head porting procedures or something like that? (I guess it really wouldnt be porting...)
Oh yeah, what would a fair price be fer some decent tpi heads?

They have the complete kit, instructions, you name it. In fact it is for a 305!
Thank you for the web site. I will have to look in to it some more!
But does anyone have pictures of what a swirl port 305 head looks like vs what a non swirl port looks like? I just wanna see what I would be up against...
