How Can I tell if I have a 350?
I can't tell if my camaro is a 305 of a 350. I have had two mechanics look at it, one said it was a 305 and the other said it was a 350. I dunno which one is right. Does anyone have any ways to tell if it is a 350 or a 305? Also where can I locate the bock casting numbers?
Thanks For all the help

Look at the back of the block to the driver's side of the distributor. You'll see a number, a big "GM" logo and usually a 5.0L or a 5.7L. If you only see the number, get the number and go to www.mortec.com to look it up.

What ChevyLuva said if the motor is original, if it's not check the # on the block. If your car is a stock HO, it's a 305. And I'm not sure but I don't think 350s were available after I would say 82-83, but don't quote m on that and didn't return until I know in '87.

Don't forget the obvious... A 350 will have a 4 inch bore, and a 305 a 3.74 inch bore.
That's of course if you have the block on a stand

Just punch in your VIN number in the VIN decoder. Its on the main page of the thirdgen site.
My L03 died
My L03 died and I replaced it with a 708520 HD engine from Recon. 3/36,000 Warranty. Talked to the mechanic as it was being built. With the performance line of Recon engines, they assign one ASE mechanic to build your engine and it takes a couple weeks to build.
I have the paperwork for it somewhere in this place, but I was wondering if I should put that information in with the car if I ever (which will be never LOL) decide to sell my car?
It was not a simple project, and I'm happy I did it. After installing the motor, the Wolverine cam was wayyyyy too much for it, so I dropped in a Crane 2030 and have been happy ever since.
I'm just wondering should I put the paperwork on the motor with the car paperwork for future reference?

Which is exactly why you dont use VIN's to figure these things out. If you are not the original owner, and you do not know the history of the car, you will find that people swap out engines all the time. That little tag on your rear diff could be misleading too. It's easier to look at the casting number, and for other things, count teeth.
