compatible distributors?

I have an hei distributor from a 1981 350 with computer controls.

I'm wondering if this distributor can be used with no computer controls after it were rebuilt.

would it work? or do I need to find an older hei?

No.

The mechanical / vaccuum advance mechanisms do not fit the computer distributors. The housing is different, and all the good stuff that allows advance too.

However, the wiring plug that goes up to the cap w/ 3 wires *is* the same on ecm / non ecm distributors up to 86

Just get a 75-80 non computer distrib.
