What causes **** poor gas mileage????

Uh yea...my car has a slight problem when it comes to getting good gas mileage. Usually it gets around 14mpg which is good for how i drive my car but lately its been like 12 or even 11. The past week i drove my car real good due to crap load of snow, but didnt mash the gas or anything. Noticed the oddometer read 123 miles and i was on E. Pulled up to gas station filled her up. 12 gallons and by my calculations, that means i got about a whopping 10 mpg. What gives?? What could be making my car use so much?? HELP

A lot of things could cause this, here's a few that come to mind: bad O2 sensor, exhaust leak upwind from the O2, or maybe a sick ignition system. Check your plugs, wires, cap, and rotor.

Make sure your tires are properly inflated also.

91,

I know we've had a li'l bit of snow in the area in the last couple of days. Did you bother to check the air filter element for frosting/snow blockage? How about just plain old dirt?

Just checking...

I am running very rich and get about 50 miles for $10.00 @ $1.14/gallon with 50/50 city/highway driving.

Could a bad MAP sensor keep the car in open loop mode, since that is what the car seems to be stuck in.

I am going broke driving my car.
