Mobil 1 oil
88trans,
The Mobil 1 filters are a nice unit, with good burst strength, adequate flow holes in the base, a nice silicone drainback and bypass valve, and synthesized fiber filter material that's bonded well to the end caps. They might not be $15.00 worth of nice, but they are nice.
The AC/Delco filter uses "regular old" filter paper for filtration, but has all the other features of the Mobil 1 unit. It does a fine job as well, and is a lot more reasonably priced.
I do it like Rezinn suggests - Mobil 1 in the sump and an AC/Delco PF25 screwed on the filter adapter. Your filter number may be different, but you get the idea. The factory does the same thing on its newer engines, so I don't lose sleep over it.

i use a k&n oil filter with mobil1 0-30 synth..........
I understand the SAE rating of dyno oil, but if I was to switch to synthetic (read Mobil 1), what should I use? right now I use 4W-30 with satisfaction. I live in SE Michigan, and endure a good balance of freezing temps, and blisteringh heat, so synthetic sounds good, but I know nothing about it. Any where i could get more info on it?

Straighten me out...
No one has experienced synthetic oil causing oil leaks?
I know a lot about 2nd gens, and i get my years confused commonly... I know that if you go far enough back, the material gaskets & seals were made out of was actually broken down by synthetic, causing leaks.
Straighten me out, hehe...

Never heard of that....i thought synth was just further refinded oil needed less additives? Are you sure it was just not that the high miles on the engine to have orginal gaskets has a deposit buildup sealing the holes up from old gaskets and then when you put in synth it cleans that out of there and now there is no "plug" to hold the oil in......get what i am saying....I know vader can rephrase this.................

I think i understand what you're saying--- Perhaps what i read was worded "older cars" and i took that to mean cars that were made pre year XYZ couldn't hold it and it meant cars with XYZ Milage + -- like i said, straighten me out

The oil leaking was true to some degree. Because of the synthetic molecular structure being uniform the synthetic would tend to weep past the seals. Dino oils contain wax and they would tend to fill in the gaps so to speak. Problem was people would not give it time to correct. The swell agent that all oils have keep the seals from drying and somewhat pliable. The synthetic oil would wash a lot of the wax deposits from seal areas and hence one would generate small leaks. Generally it took two to three oil changes for the swell agent in the synthetic to act, usually after that most leaks would disappear. The new Mobil1 formula is now a combination of PAO and esters. The reformulation makes it less likely to cause leaking. Danno
