Car runs best with idle at 2000 RPMs. why?

1984 bird SE. 2.8 carbed motor and T5 tranny. Making her run again. Problem. put new carb on and it still doesn't run right. I've plugged all other vacuum ports on the carb up. Still doesn't run right ONLY when the idle is set at 2000 rpms. It runs excellent at that high of idle. Why is this? is it the EGR? The fuel mixture needs to be set? A lot of the other vacuum hoses are off (but plugged) like to the AIR system only because I took that off. any help would be great. Today I'm going to do the simple things like AGAIN change the fuel filter and crap like that. New PCV and might as well get a new EGR. Can't hurt it.

any help would be nice.

sounds like it has been sitting for a while.
clean out your carb (carb cleaner, fuel addetive), set your timing and idle speed and go from there.

deiseling is mostly ignition timing and heat. the timing determines where the explosion occures. if too far out of adjustment, the engine could continue to turn over. the engine would then suck more fuel in and maybe a little oil from blowby. the lack of spark is taken care of by detination which is caused by heat. start with proper timing.
