305 Tpi Iroc Z Camaro

Hey

I have a 1985 IROC Z Camaro.... It has the 305 TPI. The only mod to the car is an ADS chip. I am wondering what it will take to get my car to run low 14s.

I am thinking of using the following mods:
- SLP Headers
- K&N Filters
- Airfoil
- Transgo shift kit
- AFPR
- MSD 6A ignition
- morsos plugs and wires

I hear that some people are using CORVETTE servos on there transmissions. What will the CORVETTE servo do. What are the advantages to the servo. Disadvantages....

The car has 215HP and 275 TORQUE according to the stock stats from GM. What will my HP and TORQUE be after all those mods...
thanks alot

my best with my 86 iroc was 15.05 i think i could have gotten better with a few more runs after letting it cool down. the 86 year 305 tpi was rated at 190hp and i think 285lbs/tq. It had the 305 hot cam in it so it lowered the power.

the vette servo will allow the trans to stay in 4th gear if more than 1/2 throttle is applied or something like that. So u can cruise at high speeds in 4th gear. If i'm not mistaken the irocs already have that servo because mine would stay in 4th

I'd say you'll need either some 3:42s or a cam and cat-back to reach low 14s, along with the above mods.

Actually you're thinking of a kickdown valve. The vette servo allows a firmer shift, by allowing more surface area I believe it is.

Thanks alot guys....

I already have 3.42 gears. I read in one of the articals published in 1984 when they were first testing the IROC Z and Trans AM, that an IROC Z with the LB9 305 TPI and 3.42 gears ran the 1/4 mile in 14.94.... It must be true if it was tested in a magazine. U can check out the artical here

There are four parts that GM recommends to improve the 700-R4 shift. They will basically give a firmer shift without getting too radical. GM suggests replacing the pressure regulator spring, the TV boost valve, servo piston and housing. Spring part#(8639164), TV boost valve#(8634940), servo piston#(8642079), and servo housing#(8642110). The parts retail at the dealer for a little under a hundred bucks(full pop price). Order via internet probably about fifty or so. I believe that after '88 these new numbers may be incorporated but I am not sure. After 87 the 700-R4 is a totally different box from previous versions. This are the corvette parts. No detriment, no problems with these mods. Good Luck, nice looking ride. Danno, '89 rock 5.7.
