Is this normal?

Something wierd happened with my camaro today. Today at lunchtime, I took the car to the body shop, the motor was running maybe 90 seconds, did my business at the shop then went back to work, again the motor was not running more than 90 seconds, and it was stone cold when I started it.

Heres the wierd part, by the time I got back to work, the radiator was fully pressurized, and the top hose was rock hard yet it was still cold.

Could something be blocked somewhere? The kid I bought the car from says the radiator is brand new, and so is the thermostat.

Sorry to be so long.

Thanks, John

John,

Even though the thermostat had not yet opened, the coolant in the engien would have warmed to the point of creating pressure. The pressure may not have been high enough to make the hoses "rock hard", but there should have been pressure.

If the pressure is excessive, you may have a gasket leak, allowing compression pressure into the cooling system. A quick compression or cylinder leakage test would be an easy way to determine that.
