need info on tuning carb
I've never worked with a carb before so i need some info on tuning. the carb is a holley 4160, casting 0-80508, 750cfm. Before I got it, it was on a mildly built 305. i'm using it on an l98 with LT4 HOT cam.
where's a good place to learn carb basics and how to tune?

It could take years to explain carb tuning.
Get yourself a copy of Alex Walordy's book on Holley carbs... it's about the best one out there. You can order it from Jeg's or Summit or wherever, or maybe get it at your local speed shop. Start with learning how they work, then you'll be better equipped to modify them.

A couple of basics.
1. The idle adjustment screw really only controls the idle. If the car is running rich or lean at upper rpm you have to change jets.
2. When changing a jet make sure that you do not knick the edges of it. This can horribly screw up fuel flow.
3. Find a really good carb guy and go talk to him. Getting of those just right is impossible for a beginner.
After you mess with it some the car may get a little better but a really good carb guy might be able to squeeze as much as 15 more hp out of it.
