I'm thinking about purchasing a 3rd gen, and doing the above mods (assuming I don't need to rebuild everything else ). Would this be too much for the 305? I plan on doing a 350 later, but want to do those mods for now.

The title should say fast burn heads.....sorry for the confusion.

if you're gonna spend all that time, effort and money on good parts you might as well start with a good block, meaning a 350, not a wimpy 305.

I think the fastburn heads have 210cc intake & that kills low end torque! by the way a 305 doesnt have a lot of torque to begin with. LT1 intake makes high rpm hp/ small cylinder bores in the 305 causes airflow problems.
With the 305 U should work on the low to mid range areas of the power curve to get a stong & driveable car.

The LT1 intake is better designed for mid to upper range hp, but the LT1s have excellent low end torque. I have a 95 formula, that has a flat torque curve from 2200-3500 (it makes 300 ft-lb). Granted, the engine is a 350 ci, but the torque is excellent down low. It may not be optimum setup for the 305, but I don't see it killing the low end, like you are saying. But keep the ideas coming.

Try it and see, you've got nothing to lose and you can always sell the parts afterwards. By the way, 86, saying he should work on low to mid range areas on a 305 is not true. The smaller bore engine typically makes power a little higher than a 350, all things equal. You're probably going to get a lot more anti-305 stuff, but don't jump on the bandawagon until you're ready.

Yeah there's a lot of 305 hate. That combo sounds a little rough for a daily driver. I doubt it will pass emissions if you have them and I do think low end(under 2200-2500 rpm) will suffer. Plan on some serious computer/chip tuning and possibly clearance issues(block/piston/valve). I bet if you got it tuned, it would run like hell, probably in the 330hp range.

I have a 214/220 cam in my 305 and low end did suffer some, below 1500 rpm the car isn't happy, that just means 4th gear at 40 mph instead of 5th. I run about 97mph on factory stock '89 heads and an SLP chip. however, I think there's some more power in it with chip tuning since I picked up 3 mph in the 1/8 and only .5 mph in the 1/4. I have no traction either 2.2x best 60'.

You are going to have interference problems with the Fastburns' valve sizes. 2.00 intake and 1.56 exhaust sizes in the small 305 bore will be very shrouded if they can even open at all.
