I want to be different... (Yeah, like a KITT replica isnt different enough.) But I dont want a 305, 383 or 400. I want to do a 327 just to be unique. How hard would it be to break 13's with one while retaining my computer, and CC Q-Jet and distributor? Like what heads, cam and pistons? I have an XE256. Would that be ok? Check my sig to see if the rest of my mods will work ok with it. I know a guy thats big into 327's and its just an idea. Thanks

The cam you have sounds a tad weak, but 327's aren't that much different than a 350. It'll just take a few more rpms to make the power. 13's should be easier than you think.

Later,
Jeremy

I agree 13's will be easy to reach. You need alot of lift to make those engines go. They are similar to the old 302's they make alot of power up high. You should meka it no prob

love mine.....Thought I was buying a 350,...didnt run the casting # until after the purchase.....but I love it..as said it screams...havent had it at the track yet....but the guy who owned it before me..the engine, ran mid to upper 12's..that was in a MONZA !!!
I just bought a 400ci with a th400 attatched....I like my 327, But, I want the tourque the 327 cant deliver.....I plan on taking some time on the build, I'm hoping for 450-500hp.
until then I'll keep trashing mustangs with my puny 325hp 327.
one other thing.....the 700r4 works great behind the 327...the higher rpms really bring second gear to life.....hold on when it does the 4-3 downshift My friends 305 cant touch it.

Some guy I know has a 327 in his z28. This thing runs in the 11's but hes said to me a few times that he loved the torque that his old 350 had. Like everyone else has said, these engines arent low-end torque monsters like 350's and 400's. They need to rev high to make the same power as bigger motors. If you're going for a daily driver I wouldn't recommend it. Low-end torque is what a street car needs most.

You can easily get 13's out of a 327 in a Third Gen. I have a 327 with- .488 .488-234 234 cam, 305 heads milled .030, Torker intake, 600 Edelbrock carb, 3:73 gears, 700r4 with a stock converter . Stock suspension.

Here is a list of my kills:
94 Z28 (stock) smoked him!
2002 Camaro SS (Stock?) really close
91 Z28 (intake, headers, gears) barely beat him
Many 90's Mustang Gt's and LX's (those things are so pathetic!)
97 Talon tsi AWD (intake, BOV?) 2 car lengths
95 Thunderbird SC (had to be heavily modified) very close

Losses and Ties:
95? Mustang Gt with nitrous
99 Mustang Gt with supercharger
96 Vette 6 speed (It was dead even)
Friends 94 Sonoma with a 327 in it. (Pulls on me around 100mph)

I hope this helps you with your decision on building a 327. I am guessing that i will run mid to high 13's at Milan next month.

Can be done. Build a "0deck" flat top piston 327. Give it a good flowing cylinder head of modest port size. Like Edelbrock Performer RPMs or Carefully ported L-98 Corvette heads. Use high ratio rocker arms to get the valve lift up on this cam. Especially on the intake side. I would use a Performer RPM intake with the Qjet flange if you must keep your
CCQjet. You already have the headers , rear gear and exhaust system that should get you there. A lockup converter around 3000 stall
will help get ya going with a 'lil 327.
