I just realized that the connector on the knock sensor is broke, so basicaly its not plugged in, where can i get a new wiring harness thingy so i can plug in the sensor.

its a dealer item, you are looking to spend about 24 dollars for a new one. But if you got a hook up you can get if for about 20.

Just find the starter wires and cut off the connector you need and splice it in to your harness.

and is the knock sensor something that should be changed for maintance, or is it just something that only needs to be replaced when it goes out?

thats for the connector, the knock sensor is going to run you 40 bucks from napa, you could get it cheaper some where else but remember you get what you pay for. Well the knock sensor is like a micorphone it basically lists for knocks, They usually go bad because there's crud from the coolet and stuff like that like blocking it, it fills like a wall behind so it can't hear. I just got done doing this today. Mine had a wall of crap behind it, put it this way I took out the knock sensor and no coolet came out, I got a screw driver and poked in the hole and the crud came out with all my coolet. If your not getting any codes, or pinging when your flooring it then I would just hook up the connector.

You can also buy the connector at certain auto parts stores.....the Carquest I use stocks them.

I got my connector at pep boys, but i believe it was labeled for a fan switch. Cost me like $6.

well that sucks for me, every parts store I went to said that they didn't carry it, that it was a dealer item. I went to Napa, Discount Auto, Advance auto parts. Well I guess I go to pep boys next time.

Don't ask them!!! Of course they'll tell you it's a dealer part, they have no idea what you're asking about.

The same thing happened to my dad's old car. I went to the wiring aisle in Pep Boys, where they have all the harness connectors. Almost like 99Hawk120, the connector I used was labeled for an "oil pressure sending unit". Or wait, was it labeled "a/c high pressure switch"? Well, whatever it was, those two are also the same! I didn't go thru a book, I just looked at all the connectors; but yeah, the fan switch is the same as the ones I mentioned above. As long as it looks the same, it'll fit, GM re-used many connectors over and over again.

And hay, if it doesn't fit, stuff it back in the package, tape it up, and bring it back for a refund! It's their fault for not knowing what they're talking about.

where is the knock senor on the lo3? ive got a loose something that sits infront on top of the intake manifold and when i disconect it it idles kinda rough.

No clue what it is you're disconnecting, I'm not a TBI buff. But the knock sensor is on the passengers side of the block below the exhaust manifolds on every thirdgen I've ever seen.

That's likely your coolant temperature sensor. You should also generate an error code when you unplug the sensor.
