what pullies should i use on my 400 block??
i am building a 406 for my 88 formula.. i know the block is like a 73-75 block... i dont wana run V belt so i need to know what and where i can get pullies for this motor.. i am running vortec heads so i think this may make it a little more diffucult.. also i contacted march and they have a conversion kit but its like 500 dollars dont wana spend that much right now.. so are there any modern trucks that have the same bolt pattern as a 400 that have a serpentine system?? then maybe i can get underdrive pullies to fit that system?? i think that would be cheaper route to go. if any one has any info on this it would be greatly appreciated.. this motor is almost ready to go.. i got my intake my carb!! just need to get my regulator and distributor and she is ready!!! please help me out !!! thanks pics would be great.. this motor will have no A/c.. no smog just the usual pullies thanks again

You can use the stock serpentine pulley system from '88-up V8's. It doesn't matter what block you use. Older heads won't accept factory serpentine systems because they have fewer accessory bosses in them. Since you have vortecs, this won't be a problem. If you can't find them at the junkyard, www.paceparts.com has complete kits with all accessories and bolts. Good luck.

yeah i have been told that i can but some 400 bolt patterns i guess arnt the same..so i guess i hope i am lucky and the 350 and the 400 bolt pattern i have are the same.. lets just cross our fingers i guess.. i will keep everyone updated on this
400s are just like ANY other SBC. The bolt "patterns" on the block are exactly the same. Two mounting bosses on one side and another two on the other side. That's the ONLY thing you need to bolt up the sepentine system from an 88-up FBody or ANY OTHER SBC V-belt of serpentine setup. There's nothing "special" about the 400 bolt "pattern".
Even if your 400 block doesn't have the bolt hole you are concerned about the boss for it is still there and it can be drilled and tapped.
I saw in your earlier thread you'd like to see some pics. Shoot me an email and I'll send 'em to you of exactly which bolt hole we're talking about.
