Hey, I am not a newbie, they lost my account or somthing.
Anyway, DO NOT... I repeat DO NOT buy an over the counter "chip". It is NOT worth the money. Unless you have a show car and don't want to splice in any switches or whatever else then I would highly advise against getting a chip. Why? Because they are useless. We have been hashing and rehashing this topic over at camaroZ28.com with a certain individual who swears up and down that this $200+ chip made all the difference in the world. In reality they do next to nothing for 90% of cars out there. There are a few cars that have responded with a .3 and a mph or 2 in the quarter but 1 happy person out of 40 or so, I believe, isn't a very good track record for these chips. Spend your money elsewhere, you can do everything that a chip does for you for less than $20. Advance your timing splice in a switch or 2 here and there to disable VSS and the Factory fan temp actuator setting. Simple simple simple... no need for your hard earned $$$ to go toward a chip.
Can ya tell I am ademate about this subject?

What do the chips do for the LG4 carb setup? The kid I bought my car from came with a hypertech chip which requires 93 octane, when I winterized the car I wanted to be able to run regular fuel. So I took out the chip to put in the stock tuning and to be honest at WOT I could feel the car lagging a bit (before I switched fuel.)
My main question..what does the chip do on a carb setup? All I can think of is air/fuel ratios, timing advance (idle speed??) Thanks guys...
