I am puting a T-56 behind a 400 small block chevy and I have a question. I bought the special centerforce flywheel. Can I just bolt it on or do I have to get some sort of add on weight? Where can I get this weight? Can I run it without it?

 

The flywheel "MUST" be ballanced for the 400. Take it back and
get one for a 400 if they have it or ask if the one you have can
be reballanced.

 

I don't understand what you mean. The flywheel I have is for a 2 piece rear main seal motor with a T-56 and externally balanced. There are 6 holes drilled into the back of it. I read about some sort of batwing balance of something. I am wondering does anyone know if the Centerforce flywheels come all ready to go in? thanks again

 

A 400 flywheel has a counter weight on it. If you ordered it for a
400 it will be ballanced for a 400. If not, do not run it on your
engine.

 

the LT1 flywheel also has a counterweight on it, the problem is that it doesn't balance to the 400. you'll need to bring it to a shop and have it balanced with the crankshaft and dampner. i assume the one you bought was for the LT1? or what was it for?

 

What part # did you get from Centerforce? They do make one specifically for the 400; if you got that one, then you don't need the "pork chop" weight.

I got part number 700173. On the website it says that it is counterbalanced for a 2 piece rear main seal with 6-speed. I looked at the one above it and that was for the 400 but it didn't mention the 6-speed so Ididn't get that one, that was part number 700102. thanks for your help guys.

 

Wait a second do I have to dissassemble the motor fot this? I have an externally balanced damper already on there. I remember seeing the weight on the back of it. If I need this weight can I just attach it to the flywheel or do I need to bring the crank flywheel and damper back to the machine shop?
