I was reading your post about fuel pump relays and now I have a question for you. My 96 formula has become hard to start. It will almost never start on the first try unless it is warm then it usually will. Any other time I have to crank the car twice then it will start. Sometimes the RPMs build slow but quickly level out and the car runs fine after that. I suspect a fuel pressure problem. The car cranks good and I had the battery checked out. When I turn the key I can hear the fuel pump humming, so I don't think it is the pump. I was thinking fuel pressure regulator. What do you think? Could it be the relay? I have not done a fuel pressure test yet. Thanks for any help.

You don't need a AFPR to check the pressure. You can get a FI fuel pressure gauge at most parts stores for around 20$. Hook it up with the car cold (a little fuel will shoot out when you attach it). Turn the key to the on position and check the reading. Also check to make sure that no fuel is leaking around the valve that the guage is hooked up to. What is the pressure? After that try and crank it and as your cranking what is the pressure? The humming that you hear is the F.P. priming the system to start. If that is working, your pumps relay *should* be working fine. When was the last time that you changed the fuel filter?

I changed the fuel filter about 2 months ago. I didn't say anything about an AFPR, and I thought the pump was working too since I hear it humming, but in an earlier post, Hawk mentioned that a faulty relay can be overridden by the computer. I was wondering if that may be the case here. Thanks for your help!!!!!
