emissions help
i cant pass emissions. Maybe its because the only emissions part on my car is a cat. i used dry gas i set the timing at 6 degrees BTDC took off the air cleaner and yet i still fail miserably.i got an 87 camaro with an 86 crate motor 350 4 bbl, edelbrock intake, carb, fuel pump, air cleaner, and flowmaster american thunder cat back with dyno max headers, and a th350 tranny, and no computer. Anybody got any ideas? Aside from emissions, does anybody know the timing specs for my engine. thanx

You should have gotten a print-out showing the conditions (idle, cruise), standards, and what your readings were. If you could share that information, it would be helpful.
they kinda screwed it up. they typed the specs crooked and they're in the other words, i couldnt make them out. i failed hydro carbons and carbon oxides. i passed the no's which is weird cuz i dont have an egr valve. like on hc's they typed what i got into where it says hc and whatever is around it. It looks like the spec was 1 point something and i got a 6 point something.

Okay, well, you can't really know what to fix without correct #'s, but here's some help:
High CO usually means your air filter is dirty; not enough oxygen into the motor creates CO.
High HC usually points to an ignition failure, some kind of misfiring cylinder. One misfiring cylinder can put out the emissions levels of a few cars combined!
High HC & High CO = running rich. High HC but normal CO = running lean.
High NOx= excessive combustion chamber temps; usually points to an inoperative EGR.
