'92 Firebird alarm system

I bought this car about 5 months ago. There is an alarm in it. The alarm was active when I went to buy it. But now, I can't figure out how to activate it. The alarm control has two buttons on it. I've played with this thing and can't figure it out. There is a red light built in next to the stereo, that illuminates when active. Any ideas as to how to activate it?

thanks

I haven't checked the batteries but, the lights flashes so I don't know. I guess what I need to know is, with the two buttons on the remote, how do you activate the alarm? One button has one in it, the other has two.

most alarm systems (key words) are identical as far as the remote is concerned, as follows:

Button 1 - arms and disarms the alarm. If held for more than 3 seconds the alarm goes into "panic" mode sounding the alarm

Button 2 - if pressed once before pressing button 1, it disables the "chirp" for a silent arm/disarm. It can also be used to activate a peripheral device (remote start, trunk release) based on the model of the alarm, when pressed at the same time as button 1.

I would get the model number off the alarm's "brain" and go to that companies web site and download their instruction book. Typically the brain is tied to the steering column or nearby. Just look for aftermarket wires and follow them to the brain.

good luck
