Oil Flow Problem?
Oil Flow Problem?
Hey guys, I'm putting my 305 back together after having torn it down, heads and valves done, block honed, new crank, rod and main bearings replaced. Installed new melling stock replacement oil pump, new cam, lifters, push rods. When priming the oil pump oil only flows up the left side push rods to the rocker arms. I only used a oil pump priming rod not the modified dist. like the manual says to use. The first time I tried this I did it without the intake manifold on. Then I put on the manifold and tried it and it seemed to produce more flow to the left side but still nothing to the right. What to do? How does the oil flow to the rocker arms? Any Suggestions greatly appreciated. Thanks for bein' here for guys like me.

The oil passage to the right bank lifters goes right through the middle of the distributor housing. The 2 bosses near the bottom of the housing complete the passage around the dist. Without the dist, you will have a massive internal oil system leak, because all the oil that should feed the right lifters will instead squirt out all over the top of the oil pump drive rod.
