INTERESTING plug wire problem..miss..miss

NEW PLUG WIRES....car is running rough.. and it wont go ...in gear.......the car is missing ..right...right..

pulled the plugs...PERFECT..........LIGHT LIGHT BROWN..DRY AS HECK.....SO I'M delighted....now...the interesting part

i pull wire by wire ..from the distributor..with car running.....yes..I got zapped ....but......my number 1 and 8 cylinders are having some problems

when i pull the boot off of the dist....and let it arch ..about an inch......the car runs nice and smooth...as soon as i put the boot back on the dis......the clyinder dies......again..to number 8..i hold the spark plug boot about 1 inch..from the electrode.. the car smooths out.....put the boot back on ..and missfire..

soo right now i have 1 and 8 missfiring... plugs are good....i'm at a total loss..............................

any ideas??????it seems that ..the closer i put the boot to the electrode.....the worse it runs..???WTF......i've never heard of anything like this before in my life...................

I would try swapping a wire from a cylinder that doesn't do it.

Hi 350 Turbo411,

Sounds to me like the distributor cap has a small hairline crack in it, you might not even be able to see it at first, but I reckon that is whats up.
Open it up and look for the tell tale signs of arcing.

Remember electricity is like an apprentice!
If there is a short cut, it will find it .

Good luck.......

ok.. i'm going to do that ...because ..i just changed with a new plug and a new wire ...same thing .......

i quickly scanned it for ..catostrophic failure.. i will look closer...
i've noticed the last time i had the cap off ..that ....the electrode on the rotor ..was all carboned up....as well as the springy piece of metal that goes to the coil...................i just cleaned it off...and slapped it back on........................

thanx...
