2 bolt or 4 bolt

Did our birds come with the 2 bolt or 4 bolt mains? Curious cause I just picked up a 4 bolt shortblock 350. If I have a 2 bolt in the 92 I'll be building up this 4 bolt. (383)

We got the two bolt. From what I understand, our blocks can handle quite alot, no real need for a four bolt. Anyone else?

i got a 2 bolt block i used for my 383 and it spins to 7500 without breakin a sweat. no real benefit to running a 4bolt. besides...the main webbing is beefier on a 2 bolt block makin it stronger anyways.

That's what I thought.
I'd be building the 4 bolt for 11 sec NA passes.

Well take your 2 bolt block and add the four bolt splayed caps, the conversion works better on a 2 bolt block anyway, and that'll hold just about anything you can throw at it.

from what i understand, unless you only do racing or have a high-revving engine, you do not need a 4 bolt block.Same with having forged pistons, etc. You said you are gonna have it run 11's- is it gonna be a street car too?

Most definitely a street car. There are lots of ricers and rustangs that are begging for a spanking.

I haven't quite decided yet it I want to go forged or hypereutetic pistons. I understand that forged aren't exactly recommended for the street due to the differences in expansion.

rhuarc30 - you say convert my 2 bolt? would that actually be stronger than the factory 4 bolt? I believe this 4 bolt came out of a 93 truck. Higher nickel content

Rhuarc30 is correct. A 2 bolt block with the milodon 4 bolt splayed caps is stronger than a factory 4bolt because the outer bolts are farther apart and not stressing the same area.

I see now. Thanks guys.

Maybe I'll just hang onto the 4 bolt for that kit car I plan on building someday.

Lotsa people run forged pistons on the street, you just gotta be careful with your clearances when you install them. For the kinda power your looking to make I'd go with the forged in case you hit some detonation.
