strange Auto Zone A/C part pricing
I went into Auto Zone today and bought a remanufactured compressor with clutch assembly for $99. The reman has a one year warranty just like the new one. The new one is $250+. Here's what is really strange:
Remanufactured clutch alone: $120.
Remanufactured compressor alone: $170.
I got both for $99. The guy that sold it to me said he didnt understand it either. Doesn't make a bit of sense to me.

I got a BRAND NEW Delphi compressor and clutch from them for $199. They wanted $179 for a reman. Who thinks up their prices???

They get fewer warranty comebacks on complete units. They have problems with novices installing clutches wrong etc. Same thing with fwd axles and cv joints. Joint costs more than an axle.
Also on some compressors that have high warranty returns, the manufacturer will actually put new compressors in reman boxes. We received a notice in our store that our supplier had been doing this for years with ford compressors. Huge price difference between the two but same part. Turns out they still had more warranty returns on the ones marked reman.. dont figure.
