Gears?? SHould i put 373 in?

Well i am running 2:73's with a mostly stock motor, some mods and some more to come. My buddy just took his 3:73's out of a 87 GTA..Should i put them into mine (have some one do it) ..I am getting them for 40$.. How much is an install kit and how much to shops charge to put them in..How hard is it to install my self..

Basically will these gears work and will it be worth putting them in..
THanks and please help out
thanks
Aj

it would be quicker, but not worth using that much gear with a low rpm engine like that.

With TPI you shouldn't go higher than 3:42s, since TPIs stop breathing past 4500rpms, you'll be quicker in your 0-60 time but your 1/4 mile won't be the best. A shop I would think would charge around $300 as a guess, I got a local guy to do them for $150. I made the mistake of getting 3:73s and my cam stops making power past 3500rpms as I later found out, I didn't gain any time in the 1/4.
An installation kit will run around $100.

Be sure to match your gears to the rest of your setup for max performance.

Gears are a very tricky thing to install, you need special tools that most people probably don't have and you have to measure precisely, I would advise against it without someone to help that has done it before.
