Car sputtering, the dying.
Car sputtering, the dying.
My car was doing fine, then when I got on it, the tachometer started jumping around all over the place, and then it started like lurching and stuff, then died. Then I noticed that it was only doing it above 1500 RPM, so I thought that maybe since below that there is no trouble, it was the tranny or rear end. And once it recieved torque or something, tryed to lock up. But then it started doing it no matter what I did. What is going on? Is my rear end dead, or are my spark plugs not giving a signal through??? Thanks,

My car just started doing that spring break. Turned out to be the fuel pump. Go buy a fuel pressure checker and see what the fuel pressure is. if its below 40 start recycling those beer cans, it was a $600 repair for me.
Really, well my nieghbor who is really intelligent, said that it might be a speed sensor, on the side of the tranny, that relays EVERYTHING to the computer, and could cause my exact symptons. My friends with a 1991 RS said that his did this also , then he just unpluggend the speed sensor, lost his speedometer, but fixed the problem. But I will look into that fuel pump man. Anyone elses advice would be appreciated.
