Timing on 87 Z-28
Its a carbed 305 Z28 with a external coil dist............When I pull the plug to time it it will die..........then next time it will run......when its running I am only getting 12* of mechanical advance from the module is this correct. The advance is correct when the computer is pluged back in and takes over. I know the base is correct and I am just wondering where the problem may lie with it coming and going. I have the base set a 6* btdc as the car calls for.
Thanks

when you say "pull the plug" I assume you mean the vacuum advance hoose?
If it dies right after you disconnect the vacuum advance then I suspect your idle is too low or you have a vacuum leak somewhere else.

No on the external Coil Hei with the Computer Controlles Q-Jet there is no vaccume Advance. The dist Module will take over then you unplug the computer controll from the Dist. thats how you set the base timing. My problem with the base set @ 6* the car will run fine the next time you unplug the controll you may die.
