removing a/c

ok i want to take out my a/c to clean up the engine bay and get some weight off the car.i was wondering if the system has to be discharged professionaly or if its something i can do myself.thanks for any help.

you could do it yourself, but its not legal and you'd be polluting. if that dosnt bother you, and i know it dosnt bother me, then just break an ac line loose. Make sure the engine is cold and you havnt been using the ac for a while of course....

well, you can vent it into the atmosphere by pushing in the button on the evaporator.....that is illegal but it can be done...wear gloves and safety glasses if you do it that way, use a screwdriver.... OR you can pay someone to do it the environmentally good way....

down here in louisiana we need a/c and mine is as broke as i am.
