Special Magnetic timing equipment?? Huh?
Special Magnetic timing equipment?? Huh?
In trying to set the base timing on my 86 TA with LG4 motor, I'm looking in my factory service manual on how to do it. It reads that some cars may have a magnetic timg probe hole and use special equipment to do this. I see a diagram that shows a little cylinder shaped doohicky next to the timing pointer. I see that my car has this thingy.
Do I really need special equipment, or can I just disconnect the 4 wire harness going to the distributor and check that way.
Also all manuals say to follow the emissions control label in the enging compartment to check for proper timing spec. The car's been repainted and there is no label, so I don't know what base timeing should be. 10*? This is a California car.
Thanks, all help apreciated!
